EAST OF THE SUN WEST OF THE MOON

“Under a starry cold winter night, she rode on the back of the mighty white bear into the unknown spell behind the mountains afar“ This journey takes us to the far North; to the impossible land that lay east of the sun west of the moon, were the aurora borealis shimmers and blazes in bright contrast to the frozen white world below. The fairy-tale as well as the mythical illustration of Kay Nilesen inspired the designers Hila and Kristian Aadnevik to base their Autumn / Winter 2024 collection on the most magical of all creatures: the divine white bear. The god of all bears and the forefather of man, it pigeon-toes the line between physical and metaphysical realms. ” The muse of this collection is the girl who rides the ever-wandering white bear – it is a beautiful mystery and a powerful dream which spark wonder to our imagination. She will find her prince through determination and perseverance and help from the North Wind who blows her to the end of the world. We love this story for luminosity of images, the tantalising strangeness and the magic“ The use of black and white tulle, lace and chiffon represents the contrasts of day and night, man and bear, dream and real; for one cannot be the same without the other. Shades of red unblocks the supresses emotions and crystals light up the secrets of the darkness. Feathers give life to the wild animal in us all, while hand beaded embellishments mirror the tales of the unseen world. Hues of forest green and sky blue brings balance and serenity to our heroine as the spell is broken.
