MARIE ANTOINETTE

“ “ All eyes will be on you“ à la mémoire de “ MARIE ANTOINETTE ” The last Queen. The Spring / Summer 2026 collection takes us back to 1770, where the youngest daughter of Empress Maria Theresa of Austria was sent away from her native country at the age of 14 to marry Louis XVI at a lavish ceremony at Palace of Versailles; where she would flourish and become the most talked about monarch in history. Designers, Hila and Kristian Aadnevik, are inspired by a world of extravagance, rebellion and a complex legacy of France’s final queen. “Marie Antoinette is the hedonistic muse of this collection; a woman of paradoxes – a queen of both immense extravagance and scandalous simplicity. The collection is an exploration of that duality blending the ornated drama of the court dress with the rebellious spirit of her more private ‘chemise a la reine’ style. Her story is one that captivates from the unattainable and unimaginable luxury to the tragic beheading at only 37 years of age with only one of her four children making it to adulthood.“. Gowns in pale pastel colours of blue, green and pink are adorned with hand crafted silk flowers manifesting Marie’s obsession with blossoms and her transformation of the Petit Trianon into a garden of Paradise. Laced silk corsets with braided fine leather are contrasted against voluminous light tulle and chiffon skirts, while dresses are encrusted with intricate embroideries and eternal shimmering crystals reflecting the opulent indulgent realms of Versailles. Porcelain white silks and delicate French lace echoes innocence and sensuality whereas black and red shades remind us of our heroines sad and bloody ending. Forever she will be an enigma and a romantic fantasy of beauty, decadence, magic and debauchery. “Pardon me, Sir. I did not do it on purpose” Final words spoken with humble dignity by Marie Antoinette as she faced her execution during the French Revolution.
